Job opening: Program Manager

Mad River Mentoring (MRM) is a community-based mentoring program serving youth in the Harwood Union school district, across the towns of Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren and Waterbury. MRM provides 1:1 mentoring for youth aged 8-18. Our goal is to nurture quality adult-to-youth relationships that increase access to the support and resources that youth need to improve their wellbeing, sense of belonging and quality of life. MRM currently supports 18 mentor-mentee pairs; we look forward to continuing to expand.

MRM is funded through a mixture of grants and donations and coordinated by a program manager. An active advisory board provides oversight and support. We operate under the umbrella of Open Hearth, a 501(c)3 organization that serves as our fiscal agent.

The role

The Mad River Mentoring program manager role provides a unique opportunity to support strong relationships and our community. The position provides flexibility regarding working hours. The manager has the support of an active advisory board.

Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Oversee budget and fundraising, including grant-writing
  • Conduct program evaluation
  • Engage in professional development to increase knowledge of best practices
  • Provide updates to Advisory Board

Participant recruitment, support and oversight

  • Oversee application, interview and background checks for all mentor applicants
  • Develop and maintain relationships with youth, mentors and families
  • Organize trainings and group activities
  • Conduct monthly check-ins and on-going support to mentors
  • Ensure program meets best practices for program integrity, funding eligibility, and sustainability

Outreach and promotion

  • Conduct ongoing mentor recruitment
  • Initiate presentations to targeted organizations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with program stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably with emphasis on social work, psychology, volunteer management, and/or education
  • Experience working with youth in formal and/or informal setting
  • Experience in mentoring and youth development, community organizations and/or schools preferred
  • Strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Financial literacy, basic digital literacy, budget management and grant writing skills

Hiring timeline

Compensation
